Baskets without nets

Canestri senza reti (Baskets without nets) is a sports event promoting social solidarity that takes place in Ivrea each year December 25th through January 6th.
The tournament originated at the initiative of the Lettera 22 sporting association, when a Serb boys’ basketball team made the request to an Italian humanitarian delegation to the former Yugoslavia to be able to play basketball with Italian boys. Since 2001, the tournament has provided opportunities for participating teams to reinforce cultural connections, solidarity ties and sports relationships.
Now in its ninth year, the tournament has witnessed the participation of 51 Italian and foreign teams during that time.
Starting in 2009, the Epifania dei Canestri (Basketball Epiphany) initiative was launched, originated as the ideal way to further and complete Canestri Senza Reti by providing its equivalent for girls.
